Rates: $18-25 per hour with weekly pay.

Responsibilities of the HHA role include:

Household Management Duties

  1. Light Housekeeping:

    • Dusting and vacuuming living areas.
    • Sweeping and mopping floors.
    • Cleaning bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, showers, and tubs.
    • Cleaning kitchens, including wiping down counters, cleaning sinks, and maintaining appliances.
  2. Laundry:

    • Washing, drying, folding, and ironing clothes and linens.
    • Putting away clean laundry.
  3. Meal Preparation:

    • Planning and preparing meals according to dietary needs and preferences.
    • Ensuring food safety and proper storage of leftovers.
    • Cleaning up after meals, including washing dishes and maintaining a clean kitchen.
  4. Shopping and Errands:

    • Grocery shopping and purchasing household supplies.
    • Running errands such as picking up prescriptions or mail.
  5. Trash Disposal:

    • Taking out the trash and recycling.
    • Ensuring proper disposal of household waste.

Safety and Maintenance Duties

  1. Home Safety:

    • Ensuring pathways are clear of obstacles to prevent falls.
    • Checking that smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are functioning.
    • Reporting any maintenance issues or hazards to the appropriate person or agency.
  2. Bed Making and Linen Changes:

    • Making the bed and changing linens regularly to ensure cleanliness and comfort.
  3. Organizing:

    • Helping clients organize their living spaces to improve accessibility and reduce clutter.
    • Assisting with seasonal cleaning tasks and organizing storage areas.

Companionship and Support

  1. Companionship:

    • Providing social interaction and companionship to reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation.
    • Engaging in conversations and recreational activities as appropriate.
  2. Emotional Support:

    • Offering encouragement and support to clients, helping them maintain a positive outlook.

Administrative Duties

  1. Documentation:

    • Keeping records of services provided and tasks completed.
    • Reporting any changes in the client's condition or needs to the supervising agency or case manager.
  2. Communication:

    • Maintaining clear and open communication with clients, their families, and other members of the care team.
    • Coordinating with other IHSS providers, such as Home Health Aides or Personal Care Assistants, to ensure comprehensive care.

Additional Responsibilities

  1. Adherence to Guidelines:

    • Following Agency program guidelines and regulations.
    • Attending required training sessions and maintaining any necessary certifications.
  2. Emergency Response:

    • Being prepared to respond to emergencies and knowing the proper procedures to follow.

The role of a Homemaker in an Personal care setting is crucial for enabling clients to live independently and comfortably in their own homes by providing essential household support and companionship.
